Strings in the Schools


Strings in the Schools (SIS) provides a before or after school strings class with a teacher. Many of the teachers have either played and/or are members of the San Luis Obispo Symphony. This program is open to all 3rd through 6th grade students in San Luis Obispo County. Register now to start learning how to play play violin, viola, or cello at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year!

Register now by visiting our registration page. We are still waiting to confirm all of the elementary schools where Strings in the Schools will be offered, so check back regularly to see if your school is on the list.


Tuition is $375 for the 2017-2018 academic year and can be paid online. Payments may be made in three installments: September, October, and December. In order to reserver a spot for your child in this program, a commitment fee of $50 must be made when you register. Scholarships are available and are need-based. All scholarship forms will be reviewed by a Scholarship Committee and awarded based on funds available. To obtain a copy of the scholarship form, please email


Instruments may be rented through the Symphony office (violin/viola: $65/academic year, cello: $85/academic year). Due to limited availability, we encourage the rental or purchase of instruments through local/online music stores (i.e. Find the correct sized violin/viola for your child here, or cello here
