The San Luis Obispo Symphony Youth Symphony is an integral part of the music education programs of the San Luis Obispo Symphony. Youth Symphony and all Music Education activities are supported primarily through generous community donations and grants. Tuition paid by our young musicians covers about 50% of the operating expenses each year. Outside contributions are vital to our success and the success of future orchestras. As an example of you the SLO Symphony music education programs have affected this community, many of our Youth Symphony alumni have reached great heights. Samuel Blakeslee, former California senator, played bassoon in Youth Symphony. Other Youth Symphony alumni are Jerry Folsom, past co-principal French Horn of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Bob Bennett, trumpeter with the Woody Herman, Brian Setzer, and Artie Shaw Orchestras. Among our most famous alumni is renowned conductor, Maestro Kent Nagano, who has conducted the world’s finest orchestras including the Vienna, Berlin, and New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Dresden Staatskapelle, and Leipzig Gewandhaus.

A cash gift can provide you with substantial tax benefits. Non-cash gifts can be made through a charitable gift in a will or living trust. Many people set aside a certain dollar amount or leave a percentage of their estate or any assets remaining after they have provided for their family. Mutual funds, real estate, stocks, and life insurance are just some of the ways in which you can make your assets work for children and music. Contact a professional advisor for help in making sure you receive the maximum tax and legal advantages allowed for your gift.
